Legalism
The last philosophy is called legalism. The name refers to the meaning because few actions were legal in this philosophy. If a rule was to be broken the citizen who did the crime certainly did pay. For the smallest mistake the consequence could result in a hand chopped off, or for a simple mistake or breakage of a law death could be the consequence. Qin dynasty followed this way of thinking. Hanfezi was the philosopher of this philosophy. This compared to Confucianism is very different. The philosopher, Hanfezi, didn’t respect the people in understanding that everyone makes mistakes. Also, Confucianism had small disciplinary ideas while these disciplines are very harsh. While legalism seems harsh it did work for the Qin dynasty.
